Email
You may wish to email a photo of your submission along with a written transcript to mail[at]nickasbury[dot]com. This is fine and quite useful. However, please also post the hard copy.
What to include:
—The wrapper
—A separate typed copy of your poem
—Brief biographical background for the ‘About the rhymer’ section (50 words max)
—Name, email contact details, and a link to your website or Twitter account (if available)
What kind of wrappers?
We specialise in confectionery and snack products, but will accept any kind of packaging for an edible product. Packaging for non-edible products (IKEA furniture etc) is not accepted. There’s a gap in the market if you want to set up your own website.
What kind of rhymes?
Many of our rhymes are light-hearted tributes to their respective brands. However, we also welcome poems that develop the medium, perhaps using the brand name as a trigger word for a poem on something entirely different. Our only stipulation is that there needs to be some relationship, however oblique, between wrapper and rhyme.
Multiple submissions…
…are welcome. However, we generally like to keep contributions varied, so there may be an extended gap if you have had one published recently.
What if my wrapper has been done before?
We don’t regard this as a problem. There is room in this world for more than one poem on a Curly Wurly wrapper. Ted Hughes, the guiding spirit of this project, wrote three separate poems on Tunnock’s wrappers.
When will I hear back?
We don’t publish every submission – there is a certain WrapperRhymes standard to maintain. You should hear back within 30 days if we plan to feature it. If not, please assume it’s not going ahead and try to be strong. (It works this way because rejection emails are a downer to receive and to send.)
